Stay in your niche
Oh my worddddd, this is an ONGOING conversation I have with myself & my friend (who happens to be the best business coach ever).
For many years I was SURE that offering & “specializing” (😫😂) in multiple areas of photography was the way to go.
I’ll shoot weddings! Families! Newborns! Engagements! Boudoirs! Businesses! Events!
OK, reality is I do still shoot all of these things 😆 I love them. I cannot help it. But I only shoot them when I have the bandwidth; I limit my amount of sessions/shoots/jobs outside of Branding & Business.
When I was spread so thin across the board trying to focus on 1 million different areas, I could not focus and specialize in any of them.
As I’ve narrowed down into a Business & Brand niche, I can speak DIRECTLY to you business owners, brand builders, people just getting started.
I can create a space that attracts people who can & need what I have to offer because I can be specific.
You know what to expect from me: mostly branding/business/marketing content. Along with me & my personal bits because I’m a person and I am my brand.
When you have multiple specialities, it’s difficult to speak directly to your ideal client, & keep them around, because they likely came to your space for Just That Thing (let’s say, a brand photo checklist or a free stock image) but now you’re over here posting about cow photography & how to prep/get your babies to sleep for your session.
But you came for biz tips, not baby tips.
Or maybe you built a giant community around adoption & foster care trauma + parenting… and start shifting/adding in faith-deconstruction offers and divorce / single mom conversations… what is your brand/specialty? It’s confusing, that’s what it is (hi, I did this btw).
If I came to your email list or social media for the Free Workout Plans you’re offering, but then you’re emailing me about how to be a less angry mom (instead of workout stuff), I’ll be confused & mat unsubscribe.
Have you struggled with inching down? Or just me?
