I Avoided Mirrors: What About You?

I used to avoid mirrors.

When walking by window panes of glass, I’d use so much energy to ensure it was CLEAR to anyone who might be watching me: I’m *not* looking at myself. I'm not vain, I don't care what I look like, I don't LOVE looking at me.

In public restrooms when I washed my hands, I kept my head down; on the rare case I was alone in a space, I MIGHT sneak a quick peek to make sure my hair was half-way decent. But never for more than a second or two, it felt too uncomfortable.

And: it wasn’t because I thought I was super ugly or hated what I saw. I have actually thought I'm pretty for the most part, when I try, (LOL).

I was simply taught that vanity is one of the most dangerous things. That vain people were obsessed with themselves, and this made them foolish. That if we look in the mirror too long at ourselves, we might fall in love and become a self-centered, arrogant, crazy lady.

I don't know, the rabbit trails to all my thoughts are interesting.

Women who carried dignity and deep worth weren’t vain, weren’t asking for attention, & definitely weren’t demanding to be heard — these were the inherent messages lodged inside me. Which also meant we shouldn't stand up for ourselves too loudly, speak out against things that we didn't believe were right, or push the buttons of authorities and people who really were in charge.

But you know what?

You and I, we have so much goodness inside us.

We are worthy to be seen, heard, & valued.

We are worthy to share our passions & world-changing ideas, without the need to humbly diminish ourselves, or quiet our thoughts and ideas.

You are skilled & equipped to solve specific problems people have, to offer support & solutions. Did you know that's what business is? Solving specific problems? Offering specific solutions?

And you deserve to show your people who you are, radiant & glowing with all your brilliant uniqueness.

Business is simply the TOOL you get to use to bring healing to others; your heart holds so many stories, experiences, so much wisdom that we need.

Your face + personality + body as it is...you as a whole are worthy to show up fully as yourself.

Without shame. Your face is so worthy to be seen, to be shown, your voice worthy to be heard, shared.

If the idea of booking a business branding session strikes a cord of discomfort in you, I’d love to chat more with you.

There was a time I would tell myself I was being narcissistic if I wanted to post a selfie: now I help others build businesses by sharing selfies. I want to help you heal that inner trauma, because that is what it is: trauma.

If you’re ready to get to planning your own business brand session, submit an inquiry here.

And then go look at yourself in the mirror & remind yourself who TF you are: worthy to see yourself, worthy to be seen, deserving of a business that is thriving & standing out in the crowd.
